Applications Open: 4th Training School (TS4) on Sustainable Hydropower
Applications are now open for the 4th Training School (TS4) on Sustainable Hydropower, organised under the Pan-European Network for Sustainable Hydropower (PEN@Hydropower) within COST Action CA21104.
The training school will take place on-site in Salzburg, Austria, from 19–22 May 2026, bringing together early-career researchers and professionals for four days of intensive, hands-on learning and collaboration.
About the Training School
The Training Schools organised within PEN@Hydropower are a core capacity-building activity of COST Action CA21104. They aim to strengthen knowledge exchange, develop new skills, and foster collaboration across the European hydropower community, while contributing directly to the scientific objectives of the Action.
TS4 will combine theoretical sessions, practical exercises, and teamwork, enabling participants to engage with key sustainability challenges in hydropower development and management.
What to Expect
The TS4 programme includes:
An introduction to PEN@Hydropower and its Working Groups
Team-based project work aligned with Working Group priorities
Training on the Sustainable Hydropower Standard (SHS)
A technical visit to a hydropower plant and site-based project development
Final project presentations and discussion
Who Can Apply
Up to 25 fully funded seats are available for eligible participants affiliated with a legal entity in COST Full or Cooperative Member Countries, Near Neighbour Countries, or European RTD organisations.
Eligible applicants include:
PhD students and postdoctoral researchers
Researchers working in legal entities
Master’s students with an ongoing thesis and a working contract
To ensure broad participation across the network, applicants who have attended previous PEN@Hydropower Training Schools (TS1, TS2-1, TS2-2, or TS3) are not eligible. PhD students are strongly encouraged to apply.

Daily allowances and travel costs are covered in accordance with COST Action CA21104 rules.
